Free mind mapping tools

Mind mapping tools let you draw easy to understand diagrams to represent words, ideas, tasks or other pieces of information.Mind mapping is a great way to jot down notes that revolve around a theme or a keyword or an idea. 

A mind map is used to generate, visualize, cassify and sturcture ideas in a diagramatic way that eventually aids in problem solving and decision making. Mind maps are a great tool for the management team and the decision makers and is a very useful free project management software.However several others can also find mind mapping beneficial.For eg: as a blogger and software and plugin developer, I find mind mapping softwares to be incredible tools, that lets me write down topics to blog (as and when ideas strike me), structure and classify them. These quite often bloom into well linked articles or plugins or softwares, later on.

Freemind is a very popular free mind mapping software.It is a Java based mind mapping tool and can run on any system with a Java runtime environment (JRE).I you do not have JRE, install one from here
 

Download Freemind for Windows, Linux and Macintosh OS X from here.You can either choose to do a minimum install that gives the basic version or a maximum install, that includes plugins for Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), Portable Document Format (PDF), reminders and help files. 
 

VUE is another free, open source concept mapping application wriiten in Java.VUE provides a flexible visual environment for structuring, presenting, and sharing digital information. You can search a variety of digital sources directly from within VUE including Flickr, Summize Twitter Search, wikipedia, Fedora, Museum of Fine Arts – Boston,Yahoo, Sakai and JStor.  
 

Vue is an excellent project based based at Tufts University.Free download Vue and make great presentations.
