PCSX2 is an open source project from the same team that brought PCSX (a Sony PlayStation 1 emulator) and it allow PS2 code to be executed on your PC.you can thus put a PS2 DVD or CD into your computers drive, boot it up and enjoy the PS2 games!
PS2 Emulation requires high CPU power to get ‘playable’ speeds from a PS2 games under emulation. Though You can improve speed via various ‘re-compilers’ (eeREC and vuREC, Emotion Engine re-compiler and Vector Unit CPU re-compiler respectively), you will still need the latest and most powerful machine you can get your hands on to get close to full FPS (50 PAL – 60 NTSC).
PCSX2 requires a real PS2 BIOS to run. You must obtain this from your own PS2, as the BIOS binary is copyrighted by SONY and it cannot be distributed with PCSX2 . This is perhaps the only technical thing you will have to do to get PCSX2 running games, but there are some excellent guides and tools to help you do this (see the downloads section for tools).
PCSX2 is a free program and the developers motive behind this open source project is to let game lovers to play PS2 games on their PC’s (if the hardware is capable), with the enhancements emulation allows, such as save-states, high resolution graphics, infinite memory cards, cross-region support etc.
