Twitter just announced the launch of Twitter Verified Account on its platform. This has been introduced to prevent the widespread impersonation on this popular social networking platform.

Twitter Verified Accounts has been introduced as a beta preview to let all the popular celebrities using the Twitter platform display a “verified account” badge on their Twitter profiles. The verified account badge will also appear next to user names in the Twitter Find People section. Though this has been introduced for public officials, public agencies, famous artists, athletes, and other well known individuals at risk of impersonation, Twitter intends to extend this feature to all its users, in future. Twitter will also extend this to business houses, as more and more businesses are starting to use the Twitter platform.

What Does A Twitter Verified Account Mean?

All those celebrities wishing to get their Twitter accounts verified can read more about this on Twitter Help Page here.

With this feature, you can easily see which accounts we know are ‘real’ and authentic. That means we’ve been in contact with the person or entity the account is representing and verified that it is approved. (This does not mean we have verified who, exactly, is writing the tweets.)

This also does not mean that accounts without the ‘Verified Account’ badge are fake. The vast majority of accounts on the system are not impersonators, and we don’t have the ability to check 100% of them. For now, we’ve only verified a handful of accounts to help with cases of mistaken identity or impersonation.

So, if you are a celebrity and use Twitter to get more social, then go ahead and get your Twitter Profiles verified.
