In his code, he has the following:

Modes “1280×1024? “1024×768? “800×600?

Replace that with this

Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600"

A little late to the party here, but...

At least for Ubuntu 9.04 You're better off manually typing in the Generic Video Card, Generic Monitor, and Default Screen sections into your xorg.conf files. The rest is unnecessary. I also want to point out a few TYPOS. Basically whenever you see a string opened with a quotation mark and closed with a question mark, it's bad news. Replace those question marks with quotes and this works like a charm. As soon as I rebooted it in Virtual PC, it launched straight into 1280x1040 mode w/o any of the extra config steps.

Not so much....didn't work for me. I followed all of the steps until the final reboot and then it came back as gibberish. I've tried just about all of the options in "Configure Graphics Mode" to no avail.
