Automatic logon at startup in vista

In windows vista, a user can be set to automatically logon to the computer system at startup, without the need for entering username and password, to use the computer.Find below the steps to turn on automatic logon for a user in vista.
- Open the Start Menu
- Type netplwiz In the white line (Start Search) area, and press Enter.
- Click on Continue for UAC prompt
Turn On Automatic Logon for a user in vista:
- Uncheck the option “Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer”
- Select a user account by clicking on the User Name to highlight it
- Click OK
Turn On Automatic Logon for another user in vista:
If in windows vista, automatic logon is turned on for one user and you want to turn it on for another user then:
- Check the option “Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer”
- Click on Apply
- Select a user account by clicking on the User Name to highlight it
- Uncheck the option “Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer”
- Click on OK

Set password for user with Automatic Logon to vista
- In the Password field, enter the selected user account’s password. However, if the user account for whom automatic logon is turned on, does not have a password, then leave this field empty
- In the Confirm Password field, enter the selected user account’s password again to confirm that it is the same. If the user does not have a password, then leave this empty
- Click OK

How to turn Off Automatic Logon in windows vista?
- Check the option “Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer”
- Click OK
If you only have one user account on your vista installed computer system/PC, then Vista will logon to that account automatically at startup.
However, if your computer is a member of a domain, then the check box for “Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer” will be grayed out and not available. This would mean that you cannot enable automatic logon in windows vista at startup, on such computer system.

Nirmal, Automatic logon in vista is normally set on home PCs. If you share your home PC with strangers, and if he or she may login without your notice, then automatic logon is risky. But this I suppose is very rare in most households
