WordPress 2.5 has a built in gallery feature.Gallery feature in WordPress 2.5 is pretty basic but neat.If you have upgraded to wordpress 2.5, Gallery feature lets you add an image gallery to a Post or Page on your WordPress blog.
How to use the Gallery feature in WordPress 2.5?
Gallery feature in WordPress 2.5 is pretty easy to use.Upload all your photos and simply type the shortcode in a post or page to display a thumbnail gallery of images attached to that post or page.
What are the options that can be specified to Gallery shortcode in WordPress 2.5?
There are several basic options that may be specified using the following syntax:
The following are the basic options for the Gallery shortcode:
“columns” option in Gallery shortcode:
“columns” option let you specify the number of columns. The gallery of images will automatically include a break tag at the end of each row, and calculate the column width as appropriate. The default value is 3 i.e. 3 images per row.If columns is set to 0, there will not be any row breaks included. For example, to display a 2 column image gallery, you can specify the gallery shortcode as:
“id” option in Gallery shortcode:
“id” option lets you specify the post ID. The gallery will display images that are attached to that post. If no ID is specified then the gallery will display images attached to the current post, by default. For example, if you want to display images attached to post 100:
“size” option in Gallery shortcode:
“size” option in Gallery shortcode lets you specify the image size to use for the thumbnail display. “thumbnail“, “medium” and “full” are the valid values for “size” option. The default for size option is “thumbnail“. For example, if you want to display a gallery of medium sized images, then type:
The following are the advanced options for the Gallery shortcode:
“orderby” option in Gallery shortcode:
“orderby” option in Gallery shortcode lets you specify the sort order to display thumbnails. if no sort order is explicitly specified, the default is “menu_order ASC, ID ASC”.
“itemtag” option in Gallery shortcode:
“itemtag” option in Gallery shortcode lets you specify the name of the XHTML tag used to enclose each item in the gallery. The default is “dl“.
“icontag” option in Gallery shortcode:
“icontag” option in Gallery shortcode lets you specify the name of the XHTML tag used to enclose each thumbnail icon in the gallery. The default is “dt“.
“captiontag” option in Gallery shortcode:
“captiontag” option in Gallery shortcode lets you specify the name of the XHTML tag used to enclose each caption. The default is “dd“.
