WordPress SEO plugin – Platinum SEO has some of the smartest options to optimize your wordpress blog for search engines.Once set, these would provide smart on-site wordpress SEO (search engine optimization) benefits to your invaluable wordpress site.

The following are the smarter options in this wordpress SEO plugin, that would provide smart on-site wordpress SEO benefits to your wordpress blog/site.

Home Title:

As the option name suggests, this will be the title of your homepage. This is independent of any other option. If not set, the default blog title will get used.

Home Description:

This option lets you specify the META description tag for your homepage. The default is, however, no META description for your home page, if this option is not set.

Auto Generate Descriptions:

By checking this option, your META descriptions will get auto-generated, if there’s no excerpt. i.e. the first 160 characters of your post/page content will be automatically assigned to the meta description tag.

Home keywords:

This option lets you specify a comma separated list of META keywords for your homepage. The default is, however, no META keywords for your home page, if this option is not set.Use optimal number of keywords for your home page and don’t overdo it.

Rewrite Titles and Title formats:

These options are all about the title tags. The title is what you see in your browser’s window title bar. This is NOT visible on a page, but visible only on the window title bar and of course in the source code. If “Rewrite Titles” is checked, all page, post, category, search and archive page titles get rewritten. Make sure that “Rewrite Titles” is checked. You can specify the format for most of them. For example: The default wordpress templates puts the title tag of posts like this: Blog Archive >> Blog Name >> Post Title. But this is far from optimal. With Platinum SEO plugin’s default post title format, Rewrite Title rewrites this to Post Title | Blog Name. If you have manually defined a Post title (in the text field labeled Title under Platinum SEO Pack options in your post/page Write panel), this will become the title of your post in the format string.

Click on option titles, in the “Platinum SEO” settings page, for help on all supported title formats.

Note that if you have enabled caching plugins (like “super cache’), then the rewrites would not be visible on your cached posts/pages.You will have to wait until expiry for rewrites to take effect. However, you can delete the cache (through Settings –> WP Super Cache, in the case of “super cache” plugin) for the rewrites to be visible immediately.

Additional Post Headers:

This option lets you automatically add any additional meta tags, that are common for all posts, to all your posts. For example, this may include search engine site verification meta keys like those for Google webmaster central, yahoo site verification key etc.

Just copy paste any additional post level meta keys, that are common for all posts, here. These will then be automatically added to the head section of all your posts.

Additional Page Headers:

This option lets you automatically add any additional meta tags, that are common for all pages, to all pages. For example, this may include search engine site verification meta keys like those for Google webmaster central, yahoo site verification key etc.

Just copy paste any additional page level meta keys, that are common for all pages, here. These will then be automatically added to the head section of all your pages.

Additional Home Headers:

This option lets you automatically add any additional meta tags, to you home page. For example, this may include search engine site verification meta keys like those for Google webmaster central, yahoo site verification key etc.

Just copy paste any additional meta keys, that you would like to add to your home page, here. These will then be automatically added to the head section of your home page.

Use Categories for META keywords:

This option lets you automatically add the categories, against which you have categorized a post, as meta keywords for that post.Note that these will be added in addition to any keywords and tags you specify for the post/page.Hence do not duplicate, by specifying the category names as keywords, if this option is turned on.

Log important events:

Check this and Platinum SEO pack will create a log of all important events (platinum_seo_pack.log) in its plugin directory. This might help debugging Platinum SEO wordpress plugin. However, the plugin directory should be writable, for this to work. This option is turned off by default and you can leave it like that.

Use NoIndex for categories:

This option lets you prevent categories from being indexed by the search engines.

How does it benefit your wordpress blog?

Sometimes your home page and category page may contain duplicate content. For example, when you make five continuous posts under the same category, and you display five posts on your home and category pages, then your home and the category page might become duplicates for the search engines. Thus, you can avoid such duplicate content issues, by checking this option.

This option also helps you give your more important content greater Page Rank, by cutting out redundant pages like the category pages. Thus you control the page rank to flow to more important pages on your site (individual posts), than the category pages.

Use noindex for Date based Archives:

This option lets you prevent archives from being indexed by the search engines.

  4. After installing the plugin, Google does not show anymore the title of a post, even the permalink to the post is not showed. Google only shows the name of the blog. So people are no longer able to find the post(s) they are searching for.

  6. Hi!

Thanks for the visit. We have included a link to this post in our PlatinumSEO review so users will have a better understanding of it.

It’s a wonderful plugin and thanks for making and sharing it with the community.

  7. I am sorry, it was not my intention to mess up your lay-out.

We ( four authors) never put meta description and keywords on our posts, it is even not possible.

Is it possible with the plugin?

  8. Yes it is possible. You right click that post and see “view source”. You will find the default meta index tags. Also Since by default automatic generation of description is turned on, you could the meta description tag with the first 160 characters of your post as description.

Regarding the title, I see it as “[ET] Panische angst tijdens Qantas-noodlanding” in google for that post of yours. That infact was the title of your post.Your blog title is “De Telegravin” and I don’t see that against the post you have referred.

  9. You have a nice blog :)

  10. OK, I will try that.

    Regarding the title:
Google only linked to the mainpage of De Telegravin, not to the post. If people want to see the need landing of the plane, they have to search on our site, which is a bad service IMO.
The same problem here, just the mainpage, no link to the post.

  11. Thanks for the compliment, but I did not design the lay-out.;-) Dolby did it, she (journalist) is also the editor.

  17. Hi

Can you tell me what plugin u use for :All incoming search terms for this post:

    Regards

  18. i am having an issue with google webmaster tools saying that 404 is showing 200 success and will not verify my site, anyone else having the same issue?

also anyone recommend a link for a permalink solution that does not interfere with this and will allow manual re-write of all links? vs. post name or title?

    Thanks so much!

    Jared

  19. Thanks for the fantastic explanation. Really helpful for newbies like me.

  20. Hi Does the redirect 301 part of your plugin mean I can change the permalink structure from date based to name based and all will be ok? or if google does not find a page it automatically redirects it to a random post?

  21. Yes, you can change the permalink structure and the plugin will take care of doing the 301 redirect.

  22. Hi, I see options for search and author pages to NOINDEX but the pages still FOLLOW. Is there a way to do this or am I missing it?

The use of “Use noindex for sub pages” is interesting, assuming it indexes the first page and not the rest of the pages, correct??? I wouldn’t mind turning this option on for the home and search but would not want it on for categories, or date archives. So I guess I’m suggesting individual options would be nice.

    Thanks for a great plug-in!!!

  23. It does add noindex to search result pages. Check that on my blog. And it also adds noindex to author archives (post archives of any author).

you are right in your understanding of sub pages. I think, I need to do this as many have their own preferences.

  24. I’m having a problem i have installed it but if I enable rewrite titles the homepage goes blank! The post pages are correct but the entire home page goes white!

Anyone have this problem before? or know a fix?

  25. @Rajesh – I know it adds noindex “but the pages still say FOLLOW” (not NOFOLLOW) is the question part.

  26. that is perfectly fine. You still want to folow the links on the page.Though SERPS won’t index the page, it will pass on the link juice to pages linked from this page. This is what Noindex, Follow means.

If you do not want either you can always choose Noindex, NoFollow. But it can be chosen only for Posts and Pages and not for category archives or any other archives.

  27. Hello I’m using the WordPress plugin SEO Platinum. But my external links are falling. I picked all the options of Platinum SEO. Some of them would prevent that other sites put a link to my site?

  28. You should pick them on your own, only if you understand the options fully.Otherwise leave the default selected options.

I don’t fully understand your question but my guess is, you have multiple sites and are interlinking them. But then you chose nofollow for all external links and Google is not considering the links from one site of yours to another.

  29. The automatic 301 doesn’t work, unless I am using it wrong. Basically I had it set to /%postname%/ and switched it to /%category%/%postname%/

Instead of forwarding to the new location, it gives a 404 error

  30. You need to check automatic redirect. It is turned off by default.

  31. Of course it is on

What else should I check for?

  32. I asked for your server apache and php versions

  33. I am very new to WordPress and SEO plugins. What SEO plugins do I need? Say I use your Platinum SEO, do I need anything else? Will these plugins conflict with yours?

    -SEO Smart Links
    -SEO Friendly Images
    -SEO Slugs
    -Smart Youtube

    Thanks!

  34. Hi, Thanks for the great plugin! I’m having trouble getting the home page title, description and meta tags I’ve set in Platinum SEO to show up, however. I suspect it’s because I’ve set the home page to redirect to a Page in the options panel of WordPress.

    I’m using WP 2.7.1, PHP 5, Platinum SEO 1.2.3.

Is there any workaround for this? Thanks very much!

    Michelle

  35. Will the 301 redirect work if I change the category names? For eg,
    From Old: www.wonderfulday.com/category/rainydays
    To New: www.wonderfulday.com/category/pouringdays

It doesn’t seem to work on my site, any idea whether the Platinum SEO can be configure to handle that?

  36. It should work. Do test it on your local setup.

  37. Hi there,

I just downloaded and installed your plugin here – http://www.framework-templates.com/
I inserted content for my home page title, description and keywords and left everything as the default. I can see the home page title appear on the home page, but it also shows up on all of the page. None of the other pages including the blog post seem to have the correct page title. Could this be a server issue? This site is hosted at dreamhost and is using WP 2.7.1.

  38. I see you using All in one SEO and not Platinum SEO…

  39. hi, great plugin, but i’m having some problems, i’ve set the home title and description but they are not appearing at the top bar of my firefox, as seen on my homepage.

    how could i solve this?

looking forward to your reply, and really appreciate your help!

  40. How does “nofollow extenal links on front page” benefits WordPress blog ?

  41. Is there a code I put into my header or a fix for the title tags? Since installing the Platinum Plugin, our traffic has dropped significantly overnight and our post titles are indexed incorrectly in Google. This is a disaster. Can you please tell me how to fix this problem? Thanks so much.

  42. There isn’t any code and I just see you making a generic statement that traffic has declined without any example of what your problem is. You post titles seem to appear correctly, as defined.

  43. Hi Rajesh,

I would like to know what happens to the 301 redirects after deavtivating Platinum SEO. One I´ve installed it, I changed my permalink structure from e.g.?p=3 to date/postname/.

Does Platinum Seo have to be installed in order to get redirected or will this work after deactivating too?
Just because I am curious and don´t understand how the redirect will be done.

    Thanks for your help!

  44. thanks for the excellent plugin and guide on how to use it.

  45. Thank you for the plugin and instructions. The instructions are very helpful. I am setting it up for the first time and was a bit confused until finding my way here.

  46. Thanks for the great plugin. My website has gone from second page to first page in rankings for important keyphrases since I installed it.

A great addition to WordPress SEO!

  47. Love your SEO Pack. Quick question.

I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and recently updated my blogs theme. I am noticing the title is now using the ‘rewrite’ format even though I have manually defined a Post title (in the text field labelled Title under Platinum SEO Pack options in your post/page Write panel).

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

    Thanks

  48. @obliv1on check with the author of your new theme…

  49. i keep having:

in my header .php file, the title is not updated as i specified in the SEO platinium option.

    Does somebody have a fix?

  50. Thank you for such an awesome plugin !!! I use it on all my blogs and best part about this plugin is it’s free of cost with quality !!!

  51. Hi There

I notice that in the header I have
    and also

    which comes from platinum SEO

where does the first one come from?

    Cheers

    Bill

  52. it comes from your theme header.php file.

  53. after updating wordpress to the latest version, I combine it with platinum SEO. The result is perfect.

  54. Hi, I just switched from AIO SEO and I love how your plugin works. I noticed the autogenerate description is not documented above, will this option add the description automatically to my posts and pages? Will it also add the keyword tags?

    Regards,
    Clau

  55. Yes, it will add the description automatically but not the keywords. You will have to manually enter them. However, you can choose to add your tags and categories to meta keywords and they will be added automatically.

  56. we had tried various SEO plugins, but Platinum SEO is the best.My site performance improves significantly on the search engine.

  57. Platinum SEO is the best. Platinum SEO give you an excellent chance of ranking for keywords in google, yahoo, and bing when you are using wordpress as your website blog.
