Do you have an Yahoo mail account and are you trying to configure Yahoo POP3 settings on your email client to access your Yahoo mails in Microsoft Outlook or any other favorite desktop email client of yours?
We earlier told you about Yahoo POP3 and SMTP settings, for either accessing Yahoo mails through a POP client or for using Yahoo as an SMTP server. But Yahoo offers free Yahoo POP3 email accounts in the following countries only.
- Yahoo Singapore
- Yahoo HongKong
- Yahoo India
- Yahoo UK
For other countries, Yahoo POP3 mail account is only available for Yahoo! Mail Plus users but you will have to pay for it. If you want a free Yahoo POP3 mail account, you can register for an Yahoo account in any one of the above mentioned countries. You can also get free POP3 and SMTP access to Yahoo! Mail by using YPOPS.
YPOPs! is a free open source software that provides POP3 and SMTP access to Yahoo! Mail. You can thereby use any of your favorite email clients like MS Outlook, Thunderbird, etc. and connect to Yahoo! Mail seamlessly. This open source application acts like a gateway and provides a POP3 server interface for the local email clients and an HTTP client (browser) interface to Yahoo! Mail. It thereby allows the local mail clients to talk to Yahoo! The same concept holds good for SMTP as well.
YPOPs!/Windows 0.9.7.1 also supports IMAP protocol for downloading emails from Yahoo! Mail. IMAP is used internally to fetch emails from Yahoo! Mail and this is converted back to POP3 format. However, IMAP might not be available for all Yahoo! mail user accounts. If it is not working for you, you may try to switch your zone to Yahoo! Asia in your Yahoo! Profile, to make it work.
How to configure your Yahoo profile to Yahoo! Asia?
To switch your Yahoo profile to Yahoo! Asia, click on “Account Info” under your display name on the top right, after you log on to your Yahoo email account.
You will then be prompted to re-enter the password. On doing so, you will be taken to your “Account Information” page. Under the “Account Settings” section, click on “Set language, site, and time zone” to change the current settings.
You may then choose Yahoo! Asia against “Regional Site and Language” and set an Asian timezone. You may also choose any other Asian country instead of Yahoo! Asia.
After you make the above changes, you will be prompted to click the button “I Accept” and re-enter the password to confirm and save the settings.
You may then either setup Yahoo! mail for POP3 access using our tutorial on Yahoo POP3 and SMTP settings or use YPOPS!, to send and receive emails through your favorite local email client, without logging into Yahoo! Mail.
You can free download and install YPOPS! on your PC, from here. You also need to configure your desktop email client for Yahoo POP3 and SMTP settings.
