We just told you about a new version of AVG – AVG 2011 Free Antivirus! However, it appears that not all is well with the new version and there has been reports of some serious bugs.
AVG was always considered to be one of the best free antivirus software, but the recent versions seem to have proved otherwise. The free AVG 9.0 had some impact on computer performance and many had reported it to be the cause of their slow computers. AVG 2011 is now reported to have a few serious bugs in its components, that can potentially impact the computer performance.
Several users of the free AVG 2011 are reporting bugs in the link scanner component, that is bundled with all AVG editions including the free edition. The impact of this bug, according to users and “Softpedia”, is sending too many HTTP requests to websites browsed from the computer in which AVG 2011 is installed! This not only affects the websites, but it also causes the browsers to freeze, thus making it difficult for users to carry out any other action on their computers.
AVG 2011 is also said to spawn too many processes, which may not be good for computer performance. If AVG is installed in any drive other than the computer’s system drive (drive in which the OS is installed), AVG 2011 is also said to create a folder in the system drive and dump huge set of files in it! The size of this folder is said to be so huge that there seem to be no benefits in installing it in a drive, other than the one where the windows OS is installed.
Softpedia also reports that, according to one of the AVG’s support forums, the developers are aware of some of these issues and are working hard to resolve them,
