Make Word documents talk with “Save as DAISY XML” add-in and DAISY Pipeline (free downloads)

Microsoft word documents can now talk with “Save as DAISY XML” add-in and DAISY Pipeline, available for free download. Microsoft word documents can be made to talk by saving it in DAISY format using the “Save as DAISY XML” add-in. This add-in allows any Open XML-based file to be saved into the DAISY standard.

DAISY is the “talking book” standard and stands for “Digital Accessible Information SYstem“. DAISY is an open source collaboration project, developed for the visually impaired. The main objective of DAISY (Digital Accessible Information SYstem) Consortium, is to increase the availability of printed material to those with cognitive or visual disorders, preventing them from being able to read standard text.

Any Microsoft word document can be saved as a “DAISY XML file“, which by itself is not a talking document; Upon conversion to DAISY format, the word documents can be made to talk with a screen-reading program provided by “DAISY Pipeline“.
