Download Freemind for Windows, Linux and Macintosh OS X from here.You can either choose to do a minimum install that gives the basic version or a maximum install that includes plugins for Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), Portable Document Format (PDF), reminders and help files.

“VUE” is another free, open source concept mapping application written in Java.VUE provides a flexible visual environment for structuring, presenting, and sharing digital information. You can search a variety of digital sources directly from within VUE including Flicker, Twitter Search, Wikipedia, Fedora, Museum of Fine Arts – Boston,Yahoo, Sakai and JStor.
